Unfortunately Mexico gets some bad press on occasion regarding concerns with travel safety warning people to not travel in certain areas of Mexico due to cartel unrest or related government issues. Most people consider this no different than traveling to some areas of the United States such as New York, Chicago or LA during times of civil unrest. The good news is that Cabo seems to be out outside of these geographic areas of concern. Generally it is upper Baja (north Baja) near Tijuana, or in the main middle area of the Mexico country. Not at South Baja, which is called Baja Sur.
The Baja is very long and extends south from the United States generally south of California. It is very long. We have driven a car down the Baja and it takes 24 hours drive to get from Tijuana down to Cabo. If you would look at a map and measure the length of the Baja it would extend about half the width of the United States (to give you a perspective). So Cabo is a LONG WAY away from Tijuana and where any concerns may be with the cartel.
There is also a marina naval post at Cabo San Lucas (pictured) which provides additional security presence. The last thing Cabo would want or allow is for their tourism to be compromised by these types of concerns.
You can go to this website hosted by the United States which gives you current information on any travel risks. Click this link to view US Embassy travel advisement.
Terrasol is also a gated community with 24/7/265 security guards. Mostly to keep solicitors from entering. It is nice to have this security as well.
